Coral Guardians

Highlighting successful Coral Reef stewardship around the world with Music

CORAL GUARDIANS is an initiative highlighting successful Coral Reef stewardship around the world with Music.

We do this through integrated science and music events where individuals from all walks of life can meet and discuss constructive solutions for coral reefs and the people who depend on them.

Our goal is to let successful initiatives have an impact beyond the local scale and contribute to mutual learning globally.

THE CORAL SYMPHONY

STEWARDS OF THE REEFS

Background: Often called "rainforests of the sea", coral reefs occupy less than 0, 1 % of the world's ocean surface, yet they provide a home for at least 25% of all marine species and livelihoods for hundreds of millions of people. These fragile ecosystems are vital for life on earth and they are now threatened by climate change, ocean acidification, overfishing and water pollution.

Storyline: World famous soprano saxophonist and composer Anders Paulsson sets out on a quest to help save the coral reefs by building awareness around these threatened underwater ecosystems through creating music and events that involve indigenous culture, practitioners and world leading researchers. This cultural crossover expression becomes a powerful symbol of mutual respect and stewardship for all life and nature. The documentary also features environmental professor Johan Rockstrom and several leading marine scientists.

It will also feature the world premiere of Kumulipo Reflections with Hawai'i Symphony Orchestra conducted by Grammy winning JoAnn Falletta and Native Kahu Aaron Mahi performing the Native Hawaiian Creation Chant Kumulipo.

* A Coral Symphony - Stewards of the Reef documentary film was premiered at the The Resilience 2017 Conference in Stockholm August 21.
